Yes. Web browsers cache information and create a history file on the local workstation. This allows a subsequent user to access the system under your name using the browsers back button, or by finding a page with your personal information in the history. If you are concerned about the security of your ILL requests, you can take the following steps:

  • Access ILL only from your personal computer or an otherwise secure workstation.
  • If you must use a public workstation:
    1. Use a private window in Firefox, or an incognito tab in Chrome to access ILL. Remember to close the browser when finished.
    2. Otherwise, before leaving the computer clear the cache/history and close the browser.
  • From time to time we purge older records from ILL. Our policy is to keep requests online for several years in order to comply with the record keeping requirements of copyright law.

If you are an alum with an active Dartmouth Library account and a NetID, you may use ILL.
